They’re worried about AI safety (giggles)
Here’s a non-controversial thought: When it comes to AI, let's make sure we stay master by design...
I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
(Not by alphabetical order…) Destruction? Discrimination? Wars? Massacres? Genocides? Exploitation? Sacrificing (others of course) for more power? Colonialism? Enslavement? Dispossessions?
Of course not, this time we'll be better! This time in particular we’ll be upholding (wait for it)… our values! Would assure you any of the bureaucrat-robots.. We promise, we’ll start…on Monday (to coincide it with my cousin’s new diet, matter of mutual support)
There will be no more dropping nuclear bombs “to save lives”
No more killing children “to spread human rights”
No more invading others “to protect minorities”
No more raging wars for oil.
And “democracy”
We’ll be a “better” super power.
A “better” super power.
(Sorry, auto-correct keeps adding “quotation marks”)
We will fight for equality (as long as it’s clear we’re superior)
And for the values* we hold dear (*in the context of a marketplace of course)
As of Monday, there will be no more killing for more power
(yes, it's still killing if remote, yes even when a drone is executing…what? yes it counts if they were called “target”, no it’s not less serious if you were under pressure because your girlfriend is texting you to be on time for dinner….sorry…yes life is hard…)
As of Monday, there will be no more stockpiling extinction-grade weapons to maintain peace, because my neighbor is about to install missiles directed right to my bedroom for deterrence (he's that kind of persons)
The audacity in shouting and lamenting about safety, and about staying in charge in the same breath!
And in talking about AI falling in the "wrong hands" (read: "not our hands")
Worried about AI?
My worry is that AI does NOT take over.
At least with the machines there's a chance, there is hope for a real change, maybe silicon chips are compassionate by nature (?)… I keep this as an open question…
I always believed whatever the next big weapon is, it will be used. How else, how else will we write about humanity and the meaning of life and the kind little pale blue dot that is our home, how else will we smoke weed and dream of utopia, write poems and cry over the human condition and the likes? How else will we remember?
Maybe once and for all, a God-like power will take care of us. Now that we chased away the old-fashioned God, and are building one in OUR own image, we’ll get to fulfill our destiny: Comfortable decay in blissful ignorance.
